The AKX Low-Speed Commuter, a low-speed electric two-wheeler, is being introduced by EMOBI Manufacturing, an electric vehicle (EV) startup based in Bengaluru. The vehicle, which costs Rs 90,000, is designed specifically for last-mile delivery applications, serving small businesses and gig workers who require economical and effective transportation solutions.
The dual-purpose battery pack of the AKX Commuter, which powers the two-wheeler and can also be utilized as a home energy backup option, is one of its distinguishing features.
Over the following three years, EMOBI hopes to gain 20–25% of the market share in India’s B2B last-mile delivery industry with this launch. According to the business, this low-speed two-wheeler is perfect for delivery workers who might not have the required license for high-speed vehicles because it is made for micro-mobility purposes.
Customers may now use the AKX’s lithium-ion battery pack for both their EV and home power backup thanks to a partnership between EMOBI and Livaah Innovations that makes the battery compatible with solar hybrid inverters. This dual utility meets India’s growing demand for dependable household energy storage and efficient transportation, especially in regions that frequently experience power outages. The same is being done by other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the market.
The business has also established alliances with Honda and Musashi to further strengthen its technological advantage. By offering AKX users access to Honda’s battery-swapping infrastructure through a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) solution, the company hopes to increase vehicle uptime and reduce expenses for business-to-business operators. The high-performance, high-speed version of the AKX Commuter, which is expected to be on sale in the final quarter of this fiscal year, is also supported by Musashi’s powertrain technology.
Both nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) versions of the AKX battery system are available. Both variants have fast-charging capabilities, and the LFP variation can travel up to 75 kilometers on a single charge, while the NMC alternative can travel up to 120 km. Delivery staff downtime is reduced thanks to this technology, which allows a complete charge in 30 minutes.
